How Healthy is the Weight Watchers Point System?

When you want to lose weight, you already know that you want to do it in a way that is healthy for you. Far too many people are convinced that they need to lose weight and that it doesn't matter how they do it. The truth is, health issues aside, unless you lose your weight wisely, you are going to gain it all back. Proper weight loss occurs at a relatively slow rate, though it can be quite consistent. How well does the Weight Watchers point system stack up, and how good it really is for you is something that many people find themselves asking.

The first thing that the Weight Watchers point system has going for it is that it begins with education. You will not be given an arbitrary list of foods that you can and cannot eat, and this already puts it far ahead of the game. Far too many weight loss programs expect you to take their rhetoric on faith, and at the end of the day, it does not lead to good, well-informed food decisions. Weight Watchers, on the other hand, starts off by educating you and allows you to make your own decisions.

At the end of the day, being able to make your own decisions about what to eat is something that leads very appropriately to intuitive eating. Have you ever noticed that sometimes you get cravings and they do not seem to stem from anything sensible? You may suddenly have an urge to eat something salty, something fatty or something sweet. The truth is that our bodies are wiser than our heads are about what they want, and when your body really craves something you should consider giving in to it. With the Weight Watchers point system, you'll find that you are in a great place to eat what you want but to still keep track of how well you are doing.

It is true that the Weight Watchers point system is something that can be abused. A lot of people find it rather suspicious that you could technically just eat things like cookies, brownies and ice cream and still be within the bounds of the program, but let's be realistic. The program can tell us what food choices are good for us, but it is also important to remember that they expect us to work on personal responsibility as well. Can you imagine how bad it would just to eat high sugar, fatty dairy products? These are delicious foods, but you can bet that they'll get old really fast.

What the Weight Watchers point system does is that it gives you portion control guidelines. They show you how to be healthy and as long as the program is used in the way that it is intended to be, you are going to find yourself in much better shape than you were previously. There is a fair amount of independence and personal responsibility that needs to take place, and you'll find that you unless you can handle it, this might not be the program for you.

At the end of the day, the Weight Watchers point system is a tool, and when you use it well, it can be the precise tool that you have been looking for.
